Isai Maiyam Trust (NGO)
Introduction
Isai Maiyam is an independent NGO entirely powered by private donations and
gifts. It is dedicated to supporting the poorest girls and handicapped
youngsters in and around the city of Pondicherry, helping them build a brighter
future. The organization offers daycare for handicapped children, safe homes
for girls (past), after school tutoring, dance and music classes and financial
support for teens pursuing higher education. The name Isai Maiyam means
‘center of music’ in Tamil, and reflects the central role of music in the
organization’s mission and activities.
Isai Maiyam has currently three main activities: Ananda Special Day Care A
daycare center in Pondicherry for children and young adults with disabilities.
Art School A center near Auroville where village girls attend weekend dance
and music classes, as well as tutoring in English and computer skills. Support &
Guidance Around 20 mainly girls receive practical and financial support to
pursue further education

Isai Maiyam consists of a Dutch branch and an Indian branch. Stichting Isai
Maiyam (2004) in the Netherlands has a three-member board: Brigitte Vink –
Chair ,Ivar Jenten – Treasurer, Carmen van der Linden – Secretary.

Ananda Special Day Care Centre activities
Ananda Special School – also known as the Handicap School – is situated on a
compound with two buildings, several floors, classrooms, an office, communal
rooms, kitchen and toilets. It provides free daycare for 50 children and young
adults with mental and/or physical disabilities. In India, these children are
often referred to as “special.” Students are welcomed five days a week, from
Monday to Friday, and receive loving care from a team of eight dedicated
teachers and helpers. Isai Maiyam offers free transportation to and from their
homes, along with a daily program that includes classes, music, exercise, yoga,
dance, games, and creative workshops. When funding allows, students also
receive a free nutritious meal. In 2022, a professional tailoring workshop was
introduced to create training program for those who are capable and
interested. The students love having a training in tailoring.

Tailoring section
We are having since 2022 a tailoring section for learning tailoring in handicap
school. 8 handicap students are making bags and flags. We have started
because of some of our students were growing up from child to adult and we
want to make a different activity apart from school activities. They have
followed a training program for learning tailoring with guidance of professional
trainer tailor. The bags and flags are given as gift for guests who are passing by
Handicap school.
Tailoring offers a profound dual benefit for handicapped adults: it provides a
pathway to financial independence and serves as therapeutic rehabilitation.
Customizing adaptive clothing also improves the daily dignity and mobility of
wearers.
How Tailoring Empowers Adults with Disabilities
Financial Independence: Tailoring and garment-making are highly viable
vocations that can often be practiced from home. It breaks down traditional
employment barriers, allowing individuals to earn a living wage regardless of
physical mobility limitations. Our youth will get small striven for their work for
what they are very proud of it. Globally, disabled youth face severe
discrimination and physical barriers that exclude them from traditional jobs.
Creating avenues for them to earn money is a matter of basic human rights,
dignity, and economic growth.
Therapeutic Value: Occupational therapists use sewing and tailoring as an
activity to enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, cognitive
processing (following patterns), and upper-body strength.
Boosts Self-Esteem: Our students are proud of what they are making and are
happy that we are giving these products as an gift for our pass by visitors and
sells something in shops in the Netherlands, which improves confidence, social
inclusion, and overall mental health.

History of Handicap school
Punitha (1988) is married to Sagadevan and mother of two children (8 and 11).
She is general manager of Ananda Special Daycare and works as a music
teacher in Art school also. Punitha lives with her family close to the Art school.
Punitha moved in to IM children home when she was seventeen years old. Her
parents got divorced and the home situation was unstable. She was in her final
year of high school and a friend recommended IM. She lived in Isay Maiyam
children home for about six year. Living in Isai Maiyam children home, Punitha
was introduced to music. She learned to play percussion and wanted to learn
more. With support from IM she studied four years of performing arts,
followed by a teacher training. During that time Punitha also started working in
a special school for disabled children. She loved the work so much, she
suggested IM should start a similar school for handicapped children. And so
Ananda Special Daycare came to be! What started in 2010 with just two
children, is now a full operating day care school with 50 students and seven
teachers. For fifteen years Punitha has been running the school with much love
and dedication. Her biggest dream is to be able to continue for many more
years to come.

The National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is the
highest government honor given in India to institutions for outstanding work
done for the cause of differently abled individuals. The awards are presented
annually by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Annual Day celebrations April 2025 for our students with disabilities are
organized by our Handicap school staff to showcase talent, promote inclusion,
and celebrate milestones in rehabilitation and education. These events
typically feature cultural performances and interactions with community
leaders as trustees and staff.

In summertime we went out with handicap students to park and beach side
Pondicherry and another day we visited the Marine Kingdom! VGP Marine
Kingdom in Chennai is India’s first and largest walk-through underwater tunnel
aquarium, located on the East Coast Road (ECR) in Injambakkam. It spans over
70,000 square feet and features a 70-meter acrylic tunnel that immerses
visitors in various aquatic ecosystem. Last year 2024 we also went and this
year 2025 we went again! It’s a good day out for handicap children.

We were organising one program with them with dance and music and eating

Nayagan nayagan maatru kalivizha festival cultural DANCE and SPORTS
The Nayagan Program in Pondicherry (often referred to as Nayagan Maatru
Kalaivizha) is a major annual cultural and sports event designed for differentlyabled
children and youth to showcase their talents, skills, and creativity to
mainstream society. In Pondicherry was the dance performances and later in
Chennai the sports performances. Our handicap students were participating in
beautifully dance program! The initiative of this program aims to boost the
confidence of differently-abled children and promote a more inclusive and
supportive environment in Pondicherry
Key details about the program:
Organizers: The program is organized by the Karma Yogi Trust in collaboration
with Prasana Dance Studio.
Purpose: It acts as a platform for empowerment, inclusion, and breaking
barriers for individuals with special needs.
Activities: The event includes sports competitions, cultural performances (such
as dance, music, and Silambam), and a talent showcase.
Inclusion & Exhibition: The event features stalls where special needs students
sell handmade products, including jewelry, farm produce, and handwoven
mats.
Participants: The program draws participants from various special schools and
homes, such as Sristi and Oasis Trust.
Support & Presence: The event has been attended by dignitaries such as the
Minister of Home and Assembly Speakers, emphasizing its significance in local
community welfare.

Many times in the year people from Pondicherry or from surrounding places
will come and give lunch or snacks to our children.
Sponsoring food for special needs schools in India is critical because it directly
alleviates severe classroom hunger, boosts enrollment, and ensures optimal
nutrition for children with physical or cognitive disabilities. Local people are
uniquely motivated to get involved to build stronger communities, celebrate
personal milestones, and guarantee that vulnerable local children receive
culturally appropriate meals

Diwali
Diwali celebrations for students with disabilities (handicap) focus on inclusion,
joy, and empowerment. These events aim to bring festive joy, dignity, and
sensory-friendly experiences to disabled children. They ensure everyone enjoys
the lights and festivities, breaking social stigma.
We are celebrating each year Diwali with our handicap students.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is the vibrant Hindu “festival of lights”
celebrated annually in autumn. Derived from the Sanskrit for “row of lights,” it
symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and
knowledge over ignorance. Families celebrate by lighting oil lamps, exchanging
sweets, and setting off fireworks.

Saraswati Puja
Saraswati Puja is a Hindu festival celebrating the goddess of knowledge, arts,
music, and wisdom, held annually on the fifth day of spring (Vasant Panchami)
in the month of Magha. It signifies the start of spring, promotes the pursuit of
learning, and involves worshipping Goddess Saraswati with yellow attire and
offerings. We celebrated with our handicap students this festival.
By Saraswati Puja one of the traditions is: Education and New
Beginnings: Students place their books and pens before the goddess for
blessings. And for Arts and Creativity: Artists, musicians, and performers
dedicate their instruments to the goddess, marking a renewal of their creative
pursuits. As our Trust doing lot of music and dance arts and educational things
this festival is a significant occasion to celebrate the importance of education,
art, and the intellectual and artistic accomplishments in one’s life.

Sound garden Auroville
SVARAM Sound Garden in Auroville is an interactive, experiential sound space
featuring unique, handcrafted acoustic instruments made from stone,
bamboo, and metal. Located on Kottakarai Road, it offers 1-hour guided tours
to explore sound through vibration and play, rather than performance. We
visited with our handicap students and was an very nice experience!
Sound garden can help empower handicap people by offering them choices,
increasing motivation, and encouraging physical activity and coordination. It
can also be used to learn new things. With the help of music handicap children
can learn how to listen to different kind of sounds.

Children day
In India, Children’s Day (Bal Diwas) is celebrated annually on November 14th.
While traditionally a day for school festivities, many NGOs utilize this occasion
to highlight the rights and potential of children with disabilities through
inclusive events, sports, and creative workshops. Our Trust Isai Maiyam has
celebrated with our children with disabilities.

Bharathidasan University is a premier public institution in Tamil Nadu, India,
founded in 1982 in Tiruchirappalli, named after the Tamil poet Bharathidasan.
It is a UGC-recognized university offering diverse undergraduate, postgraduate,
and research programs in arts, science, and management. It also offers online
degree programs. The 15 students girls of this college came to do internship
program with our handicap students in October 2025. This college internship
program with our handicap (special needs) school is highly beneficial
because it bridges theoretical knowledge with real-world application, offering
hands-on experience in special education, therapeutic services, and
personalized care. This program foster essential professional skills, such as
classroom management, individualized planning, and empathetic
communication, while preparing students for high-demand roles in education
and rehabilitation.

Disability Welfare Department program
In December 2025, the Disability Welfare Department (Department of
Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities – DEPwD, India) and various state
departments focused on celebrating the International Day of Persons with
Disabilities (December 3) under the 2025 theme: “Fostering disability-inclusive
societies for advancing social progress” We as handicap school were
participating in this program.

Christmas
Our Christmas celebration in Isai Maiyam handicap school was impactful
because we transform a festive holiday into a targeted opportunity to uplift
marginalized communities, providing immediate relief, hope, and social
inclusion to those who are often overlooked. By combining seasonal joy with
essential aid—such as food, Christmas cap, and educational sports games—
these initiatives foster community, reduce suffering, and empower
underprivileged handicap children and youth and our staff and management.
The handicap children were having an sleep over in Art school which was the
first time for them and they enjoyed that. We have done games and everyone
got a gift !
While a minority religion in India, Christians celebrate with grand feasts,
Midnight Mass, and local delicacies. We have small population of Christian
students. Most are Hindu but the Christmas celebration is also an very happy
celebration for our handicap kids and youth.

Gardening
Gardening projects for children and youth with disabilities in India are
considered excellent because they provide a unique combination of vocational
training, therapeutic healing, and social inclusion. Our Trust started with this
project for our disability kids some years ago. There were wild pigs who were
eating the vegetables and plants. Now we have made proper fencing to protect
the land against wild pigs and have started again with planting. The children
and youth of handicap school have started for gardening and have planted
fruit trees and other plants. We have done this project in December 2025 and
Januari, February and March 2026.

Program for visitors
Programs run by our Isai Maiyam Trust for handicap (disabled) students and
show to visitors are designed to empower our individuals, bridge critical gaps
in education and healthcare, and foster an inclusive society. Our initiatives
provide specialized support and show what they have learned throughout the
year.

Our treasure Ivar Jenten from the Isai Maiyam Trust board the Netherlands
and founder of Isai Maiyam came to visit the handicap school and Art school
together with his family in February 2026.. His sister Kristi (84 years old) came
with her son Arno and her granddaughter Cici. The children in handicap school
were performing music, singing, dance, yoga and they were showing one
drama act with important people from the history of India. After this program
showing the tailoring section. And the children of Art school also were doing
dance and music program for them in another day by Art school.

Pongal
Pongal is a major four-day harvest festival celebrated by Tamils in India
(primarily Tamil Nadu) in mid-January, marking the start of the Tamil
month Thai and the sun’s northward journey. It is a thanksgiving festival
dedicated to the Sun God (Surya) and cattle for a bountiful harvest, featuring
the cooking of a special rice dish that “overflows” to symbolize prosperity. We
celebrated with our handicap students the Pongal festival with kolum making,
games and prizes.

The welfare department has organized sports day for disability people. Our
school was also participating. It was an enriching experience that promotes
inclusion, physical activity and community spirit. They were organizing this day
for promoting physical fitness and well-being, to encourage social interaction
and teamwork and raise awareness about disabilities in sports. In December

Happy new year
Celebrating New Year programs with our handicapped students with our Trust
was highly beneficial because it shifts the focus from disability to ability,
fosters inclusion, and provides crucial emotional support and joy to children
who often face social isolation. The children were very much enjoying and
wishing all people happy new year.

January 1 is celebrated as the standard Gregorian New Year in Tamil Nadu,
marked by social gatherings, temple visits, and parties. However, the
traditional Tamil New Year (Puthandu) is culturally celebrated on April 14th
(the first day of the Chithirai month), and the major harvest festival is Pongal in
mid-January.
If you are thinking of the major regional new year celebrations, those are
marked by different traditions:
-Pongal (Mid-January): The major harvest festival. It is marked by boiling the
first harvest of rice, preparing traditional sweets, and decorating cows.
-Puthandu (April 14): The astronomical Tamil New Year. It is celebrated by
creating intricate kolams (rice flour art) at doorsteps, arranging a sacred tray of
fruits and gold (Kanni), and preparing a special dish called Mango Pachadi that
contains sweet, sour, and bitter flavors

About Art school
Having an Art school that focuses on after-school dance, music, English
conversation and computer skills for poor children (girls only) from
surrounding villages is having a profound impact on their development! It
provides creative outlets through music and dance, enhance social skills,
selfesteem and cultural awareness. In this way we identify villages with limited
access to arts education an opportunity. Traditional classical and folk dances
promote cultural heritage. Computer classes are there for preparing for higher
college studies. English conversation classes for these underprivileged children
can significantly enhance their future opportunities and social mobility. English

resources. It is often requirement for admission into better schools and
universities, both in India and abroad. For future jobs many employers in India
prefer candidates who speak English fluently. Further leaning English can boast
children’s confidence in expressing themselves and social interaction with
people from different backgrounds which is necessary as these children living
very close by Auroville international township.
The Art school: A community center for village girls that offers free music and
dance lessons, English and computer classes and homework assistance in
weekends. Every Wednesday, the students of Ananda Special Day Care visit the
Art School for a day outdoors filled with games and fun
Dance, music, English and computer activities
After some years of stillness, we have re-started our Art school activities from
27 January 2025 onwards. (the day we got prior permission FCRA) We had to
plan our activities again and make schedule and appoint music, dance teachers
and English conversation teachers. The children coming from Raya Pettai,
Alankuppam, Pudhupakkam, Kottakarai, Mahaveerpuram and Irumbai.
Why music and dance? Research has shown that kids participating in music
and dance lessons, have a leg up in memory and improving their memory.
Exposing children to music and learning a structured dance routine helps with
grammar and learning new vocabulary and meaning. Dancing helps build
motor skills. As kids develop skills in dance, and improve those skills through
repetition and practice, they build confidence in themselves. They feel and can
physically see how hard work, dedication, and commitment pays off. Studies
have shown that when children participate in a group setting with peers and
receive praise and constructive criticism from one another – it helps everyone
learn respect, confidence, and teamwork.
By our Art school kids are learning Bharata Natyam dance, folk dance,
streetdance/ breakdance and Orissa dance and music (guitar, keyboard, drum),
computer and English conversation skills. Further more there is an playground
to play sports and place to cycle.
Bharatanatyam, also spelled as Bharata Natyam, is one of the oldest classical
dance forms that originated in the temples of Tamil Nadu in South India.
Meaning of the word Bharatanatyam is derived from “Bhavam” means
expression, “ragam” meaning music, “talam” meaning rhythm and natyam
meaning dance.
Some of the students are going to Trinity college Pondicherry in order to get
official certificates for music like piano, violin, drum.

-Computer classes
Computer classes for kids can help children develop important cognitive skills,
such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making. These skills are
essential for success in academic and professional settings. The idea behind
the computer course is to provide them with practical skills which can be
useful for their future schooling and studies.
-Bharata Natyam dance classes
Bharatanatyam is a dance of Tamil Nadu in southern India. It traces its origins
back to the Natyashastra, an ancient treatise on theatre written by the mythic
priest Bharata. Originally a temple dance for women, Bharatanatyam often is
used to express Hindu religious stories and devotions. Bharatanatyam is not
just a form of art, but also has several physical and mental health benefits. It
helps improve posture, flexibility, balance, coordination, and stamina. It also
promotes mental discipline, concentration, and focus, and can be a great stress
buster.
-Playground
Playgrounds are safe spaces where kids develop crucial physical, social,
emotional and imaginative skills necessary to gain self-confidence, improve
coordination, and advance critical thinking capabilities.
We have made 1 playground by Art school.
-Music classes
As you can see, studying music can have a significant impact on students and
their ability to memorize, to increase creativity, to improve discipline, mental
capacity, and their opportunity for collaboration.
-English conversation classes
In regular secondary schools in Tamil Nadu, English conversation classes are
missing (reading and writing are taught without practicing the language). We
hope to contribute something which is useful for their higher studies and
communicating in general.

Pogoland swimmingpool
Pogoland in Pondicherry (or Pogo Land) is a theme-based amusement and
water park located at Ousteri, Pattanur. Situated on the Pathukannu Main
Road, it offers various water games, slides, artificial waterfalls, and children’s
amusement rides, aiming to be a family leisure spot in Villianur Taluk.
We went day out the end of April 2025 with all Art school village kids, around
60 children and some teachers. They enjoyed and was good day out with the
hot climate.

Cycles for Art school kids
Children love to bicycle in their village. We bought 10 cycles for Pudhupakkam
children because they have to drive more far from home.
Some kids were walking daily 12 km to and come back from school (6 km to
school and 6 km back from school). For them was a cycle necessary !!
We went to buy the cycles on Friday 14 NOVEMBER 2025 with the children
themselves on CHILDRENS DAY !! After that we went to eat with them chicken
biriyani in Daily bread Pondicherry.

programs, activities, and awareness campaigns on this day to promote

When the opportunity arises, such as when visitors from the Netherlands or
other interested guests are present, the students of the Art School put on a
performance. It is always an exciting event, prepared with great care and
attention. The girls spend hours on their outfits and makeup. They get to show
what they have learned, and they do so with great enthusiasm.

Salangai Pooija dance exam
In 2025 we have done Salangai Pooija dance program with 2 groups from our
Art school. It was very successfully and the family of the kids were very
impressed. We have done the program in Unity pavilion Auroville.
“Salangai Pooja is a sacred, foundational ceremony in Indian classical dance,
primarily Bharatanatyam, where a student’s ankle bells (salangai) are blessed
by a guru and a deity before being worn for the first time. It signifies a dancer’s
formal commitment to the art, marking their transition from beginner to a
dedicated practitioner who is ready to showcase their skills”
Key Meaning and Significance:
Auspicious Initiation: It is a blessing ceremony where the salangai (anklets) are
placed on an altar, sanctified, and given to the dancer by their Guru.
Dedication & Commitment:
The ritual represents an oath of dedication to the art form.
Milestone in Training: It typically occurs after a student has mastered basic
steps (adavus) and is prepared to perform before a small audience (like a “preArangetram” milestone).
Symbol of Gratitude: It demonstrates respect for the guru, the tradition, and
the divine, rather than just acting as permission to wear the bells.
Usage Examples & Synonyms:
Usage Examples: It is often held before a student takes their first steps on
stage for a formal performance. The ceremony includes placing the bells at the
altar, performing puja, the teacher tying the bells on the student’s right ankle,
followed by the student itself on the left, and a small performance.
Benefits of Salangai:
Once worn, the salangai serves to accentuate foot movements, improve
rhythm, and signify the dancer’s connection with Mother Earth.

International Dance Councel
The International Dance Council (CID) (Conseil International de la Danse) is the
official UNESCO-partnered umbrella organization for all forms of dance
worldwide, founded in 1973 and based in Paris. It acts as a non-commercial,
non-governmental, and democratic network connecting over 10,000 members
(individuals and institutions) in 170 countries. Isai Maiyam is already member
since 2017 until 2026 (present). Here under one certificate from 2017 when we
started to become member.
Key aspects of the CID include:
Global Umbrella Role: It acts as an umbrella organization, not a specific school
or company, and covers all dance forms.
International Certification of Dance Studies: The CID offers a FREE OF CHARGE
certification to its members, allowing schools to certify students with a globally

We have re-start our study support project for the pour youngsters for higher
education support. We will support future any kind of studies like nursing
studies, music and dance studies, B. com studies, engineering studies etc..
Future planning
For the future of Ananda Special Day Care:
- We would like to appoint speech therapist and new physiotherapist and one
more special educated person.
-We would like to extend the amount of students
-We would like to buy one more small size bus (we have now 2 buses but we
want to go to 3 buses) and replace one of the old big buses.
For the future of Gayatri Art school:
-We would like to add more music and dance classes: drum classes, street
dance classes, violin classes.
-We would like to extend the amount of students, especially small children in
age group 4 till 7 years.
For the future of study support
-We are planning to (maybe) stop study support when all youth which we are
supporting now finished their higher studies. It takes lot of amount which is
good for the student but we don’t know if we can effort that amount after 2
years. So for coming years we will support and after we don’t know how our
funds for study support will be.
-By enough funds we will support some small group of support.
For the future of girls home
At the moment (2025) we don’t have girls home. But in future we would like to
open (again) with help of funds from India/ government and funds from the
Netherlands.

What we have spent
We have spent this financial year 2025-2026 through FCRA prior permission
around 37 lakhs !
Amount will be collected by Isai Maiyam Foundation the Netherlands and sent
through FCRA prior permission to our SBI account in Dehli. From there it will go
to our UCO bank account in Pondicherry.
Continuity plan
Since 2024 we have less income for our trust because of an board change in
2024 in Isai Maiyam The Netherlands. We have made a continuity plan. That is
a strategic document that outlines the necessary tasks, resources, and
strategies for maintaining the operations of an organization or team during
times of elevated stress and exhaustion. This plan we published in our website.
To create more income for our Trust we will start in 2026 Isai Maiyam travels.
We will guide a group of people from Europe for 2 weeks and pass by our
Trust. This will give us more network and it is very nice to do. Anne Bakker and
Joanne Ralitera will great help to set up this. Next to this travels we will write
funds and lower our expensive. Happily we also still have some private donors
who were able to give the last years and previous year.

CBF certificate
A CBF certificate (or CBF Recognition) in the Netherlands is an official quality
mark for charities and NGOs issued by the The Dutch Charity Regulator – CBF. It
proves that an NGO is reliable, transparent, and handles donations with care.
What the CBF Certificate Means
-Trust and Safety: Tells donors that the NGO is independently checked and safe
to give money to.
-Good Management: Proves the organization has honest leadership, clear
rules, and good control of its money.
-Clear Reporting: Shows that the NGO is open about how much money it
collects and where it spends it.
Why It Is Important for NGOs
-Donor Confidence: People are more likely to give money when they see the
official CBF mark.
-Better Access: Helps the NGO gain trust from big partners, funds, and local
authorities.
-The CBF Passport: Certified groups get a clear digital fact sheet showing their
goals and financial health to the public
Isai Maiyam is getting the CBF recognition for many years and has to update
that every year.
ANBI status
An ANBI status means a Dutch NGO is recognized as a Public Benefit
Organisation (Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling), which provides tax
advantages for donors, tax exemptions for the NGO, and requires strict public
transparency.
Benefits for Donors and the NGO
-Tax deductions: People and companies who give money can subtract their
gifts from their income or corporate taxes.
-No gift or inheritance tax: The organization does not pay tax on money or
property it receives.
-No tax on payouts: Money spent by the NGO on its public goals is free from
tax.
Rules to Get and Keep the Status
-90% rule: At least 90% of the group’s work must focus on helping the general
public or common good.
-No profit goal: The group cannot aim to make a profit, and extra money must
go toward its public goal.
-Open records: The NGO must share its financial reports, board names, and
plans online for everyone to see.
The Isai Maiyam has the ANBI status already for many years. We don’t have to
update each year.
Balance sheet (Jaarrekeningen)
In the Netherlands, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), typically
organized as foundations (Stichtingen) or associations (Verenigingen), must
structure their balance sheets under specific Dutch GAAP standards. The
relevant framework is Guideline RJ 650 for large and medium not-for-profit
organizations, or Guideline C2 for small fundraising organizations.
The primary difference from a commercial balance sheet is that “Equity” is
replaced by Reserves and Funds, which categorize capital based on donor
restrictions and internal governance.
Structure of a Dutch NGO Balance Sheet
A standard Dutch NGO balance sheet follows this sequential format:
- Assets (Activa)
-Non-current Assets (Vaste activa):
Tangible fixed assets: Office buildings, IT hardware, vehicle fleets.
Financial fixed assets: Long-term deposits, investments of structural capital.
-Current Assets (Vlottende activa):
Receivables: Outstanding grants, donor pledges, and subsidies.

Earmarked capital for anticipated risks, such as structural reorganization or
legal disputes.
-Liabilities (Schulden):
Long-term liabilities: Loans or lease agreements spanning over one year.
Current liabilities: Short-term trade payables, tax obligations, and unspent
advanced project subsidies.

Kamer van koophandel
The Kamer van Koophandel (KvK) is the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, which
manages the offcial business registry (Handelsregister). For an NGO in the
Netherlands, registering with the KvK is a legal requirement that provides an
official identification number, proves the organization’s legal existence, and
makes it transparent to the public and banks.
Role and Impact for an NGO
-Legal Registration: Most NGOs structured as a stichting (foundation) or
vereniging (association) must enroll in the Trade Register hosted by the KvK.
-Unique ID: Registration gives the NGO an 8-digit KvK number, which is needed
to open bank accounts, sign contracts, and deal with authorities.
-Public Transparency: It places basic details of the non-profit on public record,
showing who holds management and board positions.

Articles of association (Statuten)
In the Netherlands, statuten means the articles of association, which are the
official rules and internal laws that set up how a non-profit or NGO (such as a
foundation or association) is run.
Key Details About Statuten
-Core Rules: They state the exact name of the NGO, its official city location in
the Netherlands, and its primary social goal or mission.
-Management Setup: They explain how board members or directors are
chosen, how long they can stay, and how they get fired or replaced.
-Meeting Procedures: They lay out how and when meetings happen, and how
voting works for the board or members.
-Money and Closing: They tell how money is handled, how changes to the rules
are made, and what happens to the remaining money if the NGO closes down.
Legal Setup Process
-Notary Requirement: A Dutch civil-law notary must write and sign the statuten
as part of a formal notarial deed to create the legal entity.
-Public Record: Once signed, the official text is registered with the Dutch
Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel).
Isai Maiyam have set up the articles of association in 2005 and we have
changed it in 2008. Our registration number is 28001027 by Hermans &
Schuttevaer notary.

FCRA prior permission
From 27 January 2025 we got our FCRA prior permission again. So after long
time we could re-start our activities for art school and study support. Handicap
school was running all years by contribution parents. Now we are running all
activities by FCRA prior permission. The amount is coming from the
Netherlands Isai Maiyam Foundation. Therefor we have FCRA account in Dehli
SBI. After the money arrived there it will come in our account Pondicherry UCO
bank.
License Handicap school Social welfare department
The Directorate of Social Welfare in Puducherry is the primary government
office executing welfare initiatives for marginalized groups, senior citizens, and
differently-abled individuals. We got our license for running handicap school/
daycare in… We have to renew every 3 years.
Trust deeds
Our Trust having trust deeds from 2003 onwards. In 2011 was the last change
in trustees. T. Sagadevan is trustee and M. Ganesan is managing trustee.
Building permissions/land documents
We have the necessary building permissions.
Fire and building stability certificates
A building stability certificate and a fire safety certificate are core structural and
safety clearances required for occupancy, and obtaining a fire No Objection
Certificate (NOC) frequently requires a valid building stability certificate issued
by a licensed professional. Isai Maiyam have them all in order to run the
handicap school.

History
About Ivar the founder of Isai Maiyam
As far back as 1975, young Dutch Ivar Jenten went to India to take part in the
‘Auroville’ project, a universal city-in-the-make where occidental and oriental
thought & way of living could be combined together. Auroville is located in
Tamil Nadu, southern India, a few kilometres inland from the Coromandel
Coast and some 10 km north of Pondicherry Town. The purpose of Auroville is
to realise human unity in diversity.
Ivar came to Auroville because of Sri Aurobindo – Ivar stayed because
of the Tamils and Sri Aurobindo. ‘While nobody is perfect”, he says,
“Tamil people have by nature something in their psyche that I have
hardly been able to glimpse in myself…., so what I cannot glean from
reading and meditation, I hope to learn by being and living with them.”
As socially engaged person, Ivar soon became aware of the severe difficulties
of the socially marginalised Dalit communities surrounding Auroville and began
to reach out to them. With simple methods and means, he started various
evening schools in the colonies and, in 1979, founded the first day school, ‘Isai
Ambalam’, for the local kids. The school functions till this day and is since 1987
officially taken up in Auroville’s educational curriculum.
By working in the evening schools, Ivar was directly confronted with
unemployment, the abuse of alcohol, overcrowded families, suppression of
women, altogether not an easy way of living. He quietly and persistently
started setting up several empowerment projects for women, enabling them
to get their own salaries. From 1977 up till 1982, with the help of other
Aurovilians and organisations, he developed 12 night schools for the children
in the villages and colonies around Auroville, many of which in one way or the
other are still functioning. Needless to say, quite a number of the youngsters
benefitting from them are currently confident residents of Auroville.
Due to family circumstances in The Netherlands, Ivar had to leave Auroville in - However, he never forgot his projects which continued functioning by
trusted friends. One of them was Ms Brigitte Vink, a young and energetic
Dutch woman, with the help of whom he founded after his return in 2003 the
Isai Ma(i)yam Trust in Pondicherry, 10 kms south of Auroville (NGO
organisation). Isai Ma(i)yam means ‘centre of music’ and it includes a well
running school for differently-abled children, an art school, a boys & girls home
(home till 2020) as well as various village projects.
All this lead up to Ivar and Brigitte founding the Isai Ragam unit under
Auroville’s Auromitra Trust in July 2021. Apart from private funds, the now
elderly Ivar dedicates nearly his full monthly Dutch pension to the project and
there’s an urgent need to make it financially more stable.
Brigitte lives in Auroville and is aurovilian and is the boardmember of Isai
